Data Interchange Standards Association (DISA) - This site features information on ASC X12 as well as information on X12N subcomittees, task groups and work groups. Results and conditions of upcoming HIPAA transactions testing will be posted here.
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) - This key governmental site for HIPAA focuses on Administrative Simplification and posts general information, proposed rules with commentary and a listserv.
Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) - This site provides important information regarding security accreditation.
Health Level 7 - This site focuses specifically on HL7 standards for managing patient data.
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) - When preparations begin, consult JCAHO's management of information guidelines. Search the site for further useful information relevant to HIPAA's impact.
Joint Healthcare Information Technology Alliance (JHITA) - This site contains information on an upcoming HIPAA conference as well as general information on HIPAA and related topical issues, including medical records confidentiality. Medicare - This site introduces the benefits of using Medical EDI, with general information, specific formats and instructions, related news and events and frequently asked questions.
National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) - A public advisory body to HHS, this committee provides meeting minutes and other useful HIPAA links.
National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) - A key site for those who must comply with HIPAA's proposed retail drug claim standard, this site offers information on how to order the implementation guide as well as additional documents relating to this standard.
U.S. General Printing Office - This site contains relevant databases, including the Federal Register, Congressional Record and the Code of Federal Regulations.
Washington Publishing Company (WPC) - An especially valuable resource, the Washington Publishing Company site includes reference documents pertaining to HIPAA: implementation guides, data conditions and the data dictionary for X12N standards (except for retail pharmacies).
